FAQs

Do I need to book ahead for a class?

Yes, an appointment is essential. Stef and the team will always aim to arrange a time that suits you. If you are unable to attend, please call as soon as possible and we will rearrange your booking.

Can I bring friends to pottery class?

Yes - please let us know the number of people attending when booking to ensure we can plan class numbers accordingly. We are a small, friendly pottery, so class numbers are limited. Please do not bring additional attendees without letting us know first.

Do I pay a deposit to book?

Yes, please ask Stef for details to transfer a £10 per person deposit. This is non-refundable, but we are happy to transfer your booking to a different date.

What clothing is advisable for pottery class?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing to class - aprons are provided, and the clay we use tends to wash off most clothing. Trousers or jeans are advisable for learning at the potters wheel. There is a bathroom available if you wish to change before or after you lesson. The temperature in the pottery can vary slightly from warm to cooler, so a t-shirt and an extra layer can be useful.

What should I expect from a beginners taster class?

You will learn to make one hand-built pot and learn the basics of the potters wheel, making a total of three pots. Classes are fun and relaxed, taught by Stef who will share interesting pottery history and anecdotes while you learn new techniques. You can expect to be learning as part of a group, and there will potentially be other individuals in the pottery making at a variety of levels. We offer a warm welcome and an inclusive space for everyone, with tea, coffee and biscuits provided. We ask you relax and enjoy the experience, while being kind and respectful of others.

How long does it take for my pottery to be fired after my lesson?

We allow approximately three weeks for firing and glazing. Following this your pottery will be ready to collect. This can vary at times, and calling ahead to confirm your pottery is ready is essential.

How long do I have to collect my pots?

All pottery is stored for 8 weeks from completion. We are a small, independently run pottery with limited storage space. If your pottery is not collected after 8 weeks, it will be recycled.

Do you offer pottery classes for kids?

Classes are suitable for ages 5+. We ask a responsible adult to accompany any child under 16 years old. If the adult is not taking part, they will not be charged. Please let us know at the time of booking who will be taking part.

What levels of classes are available?

Lessons are available from absolute beginners to pro-potters. If you have never tried pottery before, or have more experience, everyone is welcome and can be accommodated.

I work long hours and hectic shifts. Do I need to do a class at the same time every week?

No, you are not tied to a specific reoccurring class day/time each week. We accommodate many busy working professionals and offer flexible class times to suit. Lessons can be booked from week to week, and you are not required to sign up to a block of lessons. Alternatively, if you prefer to book for the same day & time each week, this is no problem!

Can you accommodate children or adults with additional needs?

Yes, we can. Please call Stef to discuss as we can plan a lesson to suit. If beneficial, we will arrange an initial visit to the pottery so you can see the studio and discuss how we can create the best experience for the individual.

Do you offer group bookings?

Yes, we offer group bookings for children’s parties, celebrations and team building. We have even taught pottery classes at a wedding! Please call Stef to discuss your requirements and numbers. Small groups can be accommodated in the pottery studio, otherwise we can bring all of the equipment to your place of work or location.

What if something happens to my pottery during the firing process ?

Stef and the team take every care handling your pottery. Sometimes, in all forms of pottery, nature and science takes over and has other plans for the pots. This can result in cracks, warping, glaze dripping and crawling, and even a minor blow out from the clay body. These are a normal part of the process when you are learning and shouldn’t be something to worry about. We have many years of experience to dedicate to the final stages of finishing your creations and will work with you to create solutions along the way. We are keen for you to have a wonderful experience with us, and we look forward to many enjoyable pottery lessons ahead!
