What to Expect

The Raku experience is a two day process. The first part is a three hour lesson to make three pots, followed by the firing day where you will hand paint glazes and see the process unfold. The initial classes can be booked for a variety of dates. Firings take place on select dates throughout the year.

A Japanese ceramics technique. It involves removing pottery from a hot kiln, placing it in combustible natural material, and rapidly cooling it, often by placing it in water or exposing it to cool air. This process creates unique, unpredictable patterns and colours in the glaze due to the thermal shock.

❋ What is Raku?

The initial class will take place at the upstairs workshop at Stef Baxter’s Pottery studio on Harmony Row. Please see the “Visit” page for more info.

The second class usually takes place in the courtyard of Harmony Row, but has on occasion been at House for an Art Lover or outside Govan Old.

❋ Where does the classes take place?

Bring yourself and wear comfy clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dusty during pottery making and slightly infused with smoke from saw dust fire during the second session. (Don’t worry - it washes out)

❋ What to wear and bring?

The £100 covers all materials, lesson time, and firing costs. You will have three fabulous pots to take home at the end of the second day.
